Bloodstone Essence Essay August 8, 2009 Gaia’s Own Nature Essences Shelly Mortensen
Cold Mountain Poem 8th -9th century poet Han-Shan Yesterday I saw the trees by the River’s edge wrecked and broken beyond belief, only two tree trunks left standing, scarred by blades of a thousand axes, Frost strips the yellowing leaves, River waves pluck at withered roots, This is the way the living must fare. Why curse at Heaven and Earth. I knew what I was looking for right away with Bloodstone Essence. It was very up front about its signature teaching lesson of cleansing the bones of the old, unwanted stories of our past. How do you paint that, I asked myself, panicked. How do you describe it? Brackish water is the answer. In Humboldt County there are many tributaries of water that are in constant contact with the tides of the Pacific Ocean. These waters balance and cleanse the bones of the land. This also is the bloody diffusion that cleanses by sorting in the human skeleton. By weight, bone is 65 percent mineral and 35 percent cell, fibers, and blood vessels. The compact, weight bearing part of the bones are arranged in distinctive patterns called osteons. Here the bone cells are arranged in concentric circles surrounded by a mineralized matrix. In the center of each set is a canal that carries small vessels. Nutrients and oxygen reach the isolated osteocytes by way of small canals that radiate away from the cells like legs. Between individual systems, bone-destroying cells can be found breaking down existing patterns, freeing the calcium phosphate complexes to enter the blood, the brackish water of our bodies. As we age, our emotional baggage keeps mounting up. Our ability to diffuse or cleanse through activity may start to diminish. Like the skeleton of bones, we can only cleanse by moving the old stuff out and bringing in the fresh and clean. This may be why being grandparents can be such a joy for our emotional well being. Sometimes we only allow certain things to go through like the selective permeable membranes of the bones. Bloodstone essence addresses this boldly, taking you where you have never been before. If you go down into a depression and come up to quickly, the level of emotional pressure, that is to say, the ascent and descent into this essence, can also create what skin divers call the bends. This is a gradient essence. I had to take the essences in short doses of leaving it and coming back to it. Bloodstone facilitates the cleansing of the heart through the bones. The bones absorb the ache, and then filter it through the heart by reduction and by dilution back through the bones. This is the heart ache you feel too clearly in your heart and too deeply in your bones. Bloodstone then sends the cleansed emotional aspect of the blood free to reframe the hurt and release it or at least put it aside to move forward into a more present and positive existence. It breaks the chain of dependent origination. As the spiral of negative thinking unwinds, the cleansing starts with reframing and balancing. Diffusion for balancing is based on the concentration of gradients. Using water as an example, if the ground around a water pocket is starting to go dry the water won’t just stay in that pocket. It will redistribute/diffuse out to the surroundings to balance the concentration of water and its surrounding environment. If the pocket of water was full, and the ground around it was moist, then depending on the moisture around the pocket, the water may not go anywhere. The concentration of the water is balanced on both sides. Bloodstone essence is the essence of reduction. The “What is really going on here ? ” question. It supports the mindfulness of the situation. It cleanses the clutter to get to the heart of the matter for clarity. This is not to be confused with complete healing only revealing. It is reduction clarity to quiet the noise long enough to hear yourself so that you are not distracted by the flurry and clatter of the broken winged bird. Try as you may, you can not stop operating from the heart. You have to rise above it, truly free of clinging to the pain like a fish living in the moment at the whim of the sea and river.
